ABOUT US
PJ Tate Foundation for Nursing began after the death of Pearly Johnson Tate who for over 25 years knew and was well versed on educational struggle.
Womanhood
Pearly J. Tate was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu Sorority. She felt the need to do everything in her power, to carry out the ideas of scholarship, loyalty and service. Pearly knew she had to be committed to intellectual integrity in the pursuit of wisdom. Her focus was implementing the core values and ideas she learned from her siblings. The moral, social and religious ideas of education as she was genuinely committed to provide her the compassion of well being and helping of others. She believed in the greater works, the greater honor and glory of GOD.
She was in a pre-college engineering program at Michigan State University fall of 1993. She also joined and worked with the DAPCEP Program for youth. That was a program that promoted children’s higher education and scholarships were involved. She also taught at Highland Park Community College as a professor. Later she went onto DMC working within the critical care unit for years for Detroit Medical Center. After many years of working at DMC she decided it was time to make a change. That change led her to the Veteran Memorial Hospital. She worked on the step down unit and several other departments until her passing May 24, 2016.
Motherhood
Pearly Tate was the mother of two of my daughters. Pearly and I both knew that we would have to prepare our children for life's uncertainties. Pearly was a great mother she loved her children. I was so glad that we were on the same page. She was a great mother, she would work the (midnight - shift) so she could spend time with the kids doing the day. I knew there was certain things that we would have to instill in them at an early age. In order for them to be productive in life, and to be God fearing individuals in order to make it in this world. We both felt that there was a need to inform them, that there are obstacles in this world as well. But don’t let that “detour” you from your goals in life. Believe in God, an believe in yourself, adopt the attitude that if you can believe it, you can achieve it, and go ahead and do it. I’m so thankful that all of my children have undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as one earning their doctatorate of educational leadership. That is a blessing in itself and I thank God for that... I’m so glad my wife was able to witness that before her passing.
She will always be “miss”... H. Tate
Wife
My wife and I were married over 38 years when she passed. That was like a part of my soul was gone when she passed. It has been hard on me to lose her, but for the “grace” of God, there go I. The word of God, That’s what keeps me sound... I try to remember the good times we had together as well as the struggles we had as well. The good times out way the bad times. We were together a number of years before there was a marriage I push for us to get our careers together before a marriage, well that didn’t last long, we got married. Then the children were born. I could not have ask for a better person to be married too. That is what a successful marriage is, love and a great partnership. It was important to the both of us to push, and motivate our children, so that they would and could have a better life by getting their education on track. That was important to make that fact known in order to have a better life. That was important to us to enlighten them on what they would need to succeed. I could not have did it without her. That was the kind of person she was...Pearly J. Tate.
(May she rest in God’s arms)...I will always miss her... H. Tate.
Building the P. J. Tate Foundation for Nursing
My name is Herbert L. Tate. I’m a Master Barber, as well as a license Cosmetologist, Hair Stylist in the city of Detroit for over 39yrs before retiring. After retiring I wanted to help my patrons, and others after hearing them talk through out the years of there personal problems. That they wish they could fine someway that they could possibly get some type of financial assistance to help get there children into college or some type of higher education programs. that keep their children off the streets an into some type of schooling that would teach them to use their mind as a better way to make their life better.
After I retired, I started Lloyd T Enterprise Marketing Co. My company would donate a percentage of the profits to children scholarships. I personally knew that scholarships help! .Scholarships helped my wife and I with are own children's education. After the sudden death of my wife, her beliefs and what she stood for I felt that it would be a honor to help others in her name, to help others in the professions they my seek. That “what” P.J.Tate Foundation for Nursing: stands for.
We help others with there finance in the terms of scholarships. That’s what the world needs more programs to help promote our people.
P.J.Tate Foundation for Nusring: was founded for that purpose... Thank You
H. Tate
